WordCamp Ed Update / T-Shirt Info
Are you psyched yet? I’m pleased to update you on WordCamp Ed with a line-up of speakers, explain the afternoon sessions, invite you to participate on the WordCamp Ed blog, and ask an important question about t-shirt sizes.
Shirts:
Each participant who signs up by 11/7 will receive a t-shirt. We’re printing the shirts on American Apparel t-shirts, which tend to run smaller than other t-shirt companies. If you’re not familiar with AA t-shirts, you’ll probably want to change your size to a larger one. You can login to the WordPress install, editing your user’s profile (http://dc2008.wordcamped.org/wp-admin/). And women’s sizes are available as well! If you’d like a woman’s shirt, email me directly and I’ll make sure we order it. All special requests and changes to t-shirts must be made by midnight on Sunday, November 9th.
Schedule/Parking/Lodging:
An official schedule has been posted on the website http://dc2008.wordcamped.org/schedule/, with registration beginning at 8:30, and the day wrapping up at 5:30 on November 22nd. After the event, I hope we’ll be able to grab some dinner and drinks nearby. Parking and lodging info is on the website.
Lightning Talks During Lunch:
For those of you who have something to say — either showing off your WordPress install, asking a question, or pitching your idea for an afternoon session to the larger crowd.. we’ll have a sign-up on November 22nd for a 5-minute slot to speak to the group while we eat lunch. This is a low-pressure opportunity to share with the group.
Afternoon UnConference:
Following a morning of pre-planned speakers, the afternoon will be open for breakout sessions that are created and run by conference participants. Interested in leading a session, or have questions you’d like answered? We’re encouraging everyone to post these ideas, thoughts and proposals to the community blog. We’ll organize much of the schedule on the spot, but it’ll be helpful to have ideas already out there that we can build on.
Community Blog:
Upon registering for WordCamp Ed, you were given a participants profile, and access to the WordCamp Ed blog. I’ve changed your permissions to give you access to author new entries, using the username and password you created. Login to the WordPress install (http://dc2008.wordcamped.org/wp-admin/), and add a post! (note that we’re running the new version of WordPress, 2.7. Jane Wells will tell us all about it at her talk)
Don’t hesitate to post to the blog, or email me directly (dave@omeka.org) with any questions you may have.
