Dave Lester

I'm a web developer and community liaison at the Center for History and New Media, where I work on Omeka (omeka.org). Much of my own work focuses on the confluence of technology and culture, as well as social engagement with communities of research by harnessing new media. In addition to my work at CHNM, I am digital curator of the American Studies Crossroads Project at Georgetown.

I believe in open source software and the values of an open education. I'm a fan of WordPress, and have organized this first WordCamp Ed to physically bring together a community of like-minded educators, technologies, and enthusiasts to share our work and engage in a rich dialogue about WordPress as a tool for learning and information sharing. I'm also a co-organizer of THATCamp (thatcamp.org), The Humanities and Technology Camp. Both of these conferences feature an unconference afternoon, which is a format that I've found to be optimal for engaging in conversations with other participants.

I look forward to WordCamp Ed DC 2008!
